A couple of tips:

If you get garbage (or a blank screen) when you click on your icon, try putting your cursor over an image, pressing your right mouse button, and choosing the Save Link option.

Downloading the Microsoft Font Smoother (originally part of the Plus! Pack) will not only improve font quality for Win 95 users but allow you to show icons in all possible colours.
