The Comedy Zone was created in 1984 as a way to provide an alternative entertainment concept for free standing venues and hotel lounges who were suffering revenue losses from the tougher D.U.I. laws and the changes in the legal drinking age. The goal was simple, bring national comedians to cities where a traditional weeklong club was not feasible because of a limited population base. Tours were developed so the affiliated clubs were geographically located within a few hours driving distance from one another. This enables us to book national comedians on a four to six day run without the separate venues incurring any of the transportation costs. As a result, people living in these cities can now see top-level national comedians performing live every week, as well as, the comedians have the opportunity to increase their income.
The Comedy Zone has grown from its humble beginnings to become the largest comedy club network in America. In 2000, HTI contracted over 2000 comedians for the 50+ clubs that are part of The Comedy Zone Network and the numerous military installations, universities, and corporate clients it represents. From a concept created to help clubs and lounges promote off-nights, The Comedy Zone, has grown to the point where, for many venues, their one or two nights of comedy represent their biggest nights of the week.
