  • Membership of HumorLinks
    • What are the advantages of signing up?
      • Once you're logged in you can experience the full features of our site, including writing reviews, adding websites to our directory, liking sites, adding reviews and building your own private list. You'll also be able to connect with other members and HumorLinks visitors by publishing your favorite collection of humor resources via your own special Public Category, which you can build and add to day by day.

        You also have the option of sharing information and resources by linking up with other members. You will then be able to communicate with them and let them see your Shared Sites via your Profile Page -- and they will be able to let you browse their shared sites too.

  • Site Display Order & Special Labels
    • How is the ordering of sites decided? Star .STAR LISTING. New .SCORE.
      • By default, sites are displayed in order of .STAR LISTING. (Star Listings)
        followed by listings that are less than 8 days old New
        followed by users' score .SCORE.

        Users' Score is calculated by: -

        5000
        + Number of Likes × 100
        + Monthly Hits (outward plus inward) × 10
        + (Rating - 8.000) × 2500 × (Traffic Index)2

    • What is the Traffic Index?
      • The Traffic Index deals with sites which have a low number of outward and inward hits but receive a large number of votes. This indicates attempts by people to boost or indeed diminish a site's rating figure in the hope of improving its order in the listings.

        To correct this, the Traffic Index is ultilised to ensure that a rating is used according to how genuine the votes probably are.

        Traffic Index = (Traffic - Votes)
                                   (Traffic)

        and where Traffic = Total Accumulated Hits (outward plus inward)

        and where Votes = Total Number of times people have voted for the site

    • How does a site get a Star Listing? Star
      • Sites with a .STAR LISTING. label are those which have Star Listing Credits and have their Click Weight set to 1 or more. The top 10 Star Listings also get listed on the main index page of HumorLinks. Click here for more details.

    • How long does a site stay listed as New? New
      • Sites are listed as New for eight days.

    • How does a site get a Highly Rated label and red stars? .TOP RATED.
      • A site must have a rating of at least 8.0500 before it can begin to receive any red stars. The higher a site's rating, the more stars it will get (maximum 5). The 350 sites with the highest rating are labelled .TOP RATED.. Any site's rating in excess of 6.0000 is multiplied by 2,500 and this number of points is added to the site's overall score. Bottom line: - The higher the rating, the higher the site's overall score and ranking in the categories and search results.

    • How does a site become labelled Popular? .POPULAR.
      • The 350 listed sites which are receiving traffic at the highest speed from HumorLinks are listed as .POPULAR.. Each hit per month scores 1 point. The higher the traffic, the higher the site's overall score and ranking in the categories and search results.

    • How does a site get a Hot label? .HOT.
      • Sites which link to our site and provide us with inward traffic of at least 1 hit per month are listed as .HOT. and the top 350 appear on the .HOT SITES. page. A site labelled as .HOT. is far less likely to be deleted from the listings, as the mere fact that it is providing some inward traffic clearly indicates it is not defunct. Each hit per month scores 10 points. The higher the traffic, the higher the site's overall score and ranking in the categories and search results.

    • How does a site become labelled First Class? .FIRST CLASS.
      • If a site is labelled as .POPULAR. and .TOP RATED. and has also achieved a rating higher than 8.6000 - then it is also labelled as a .FIRST CLASS. site - meaning it's in the "cream of the crop." The .FIRST CLASS. label in itself does not alter the site's rankings in the categories and search results, but is there for our visitors' reference.

    • How does a site become labelled Established? .ESTABLISHED.
      • Once a site has received 3,000 hits via HumorLinks, it is deemed to be .ESTABLISHED.. This means it has been around for a while and a lot of people have seen it. The .ESTABLISHED. label in itself does not alter the site's rankings in the categories and search results, but is there for our visitors' reference.

    • Why is a site's listing labelled as PG 12?
      • Sites with vulgar or profane language are usually labelled with the symbol, meaning PG 12. Generally, a site will have this label if it is suitable for those aged 12 and above.

    • Why is a site's listing labelled as PG 15?
      • Sites with violent or overtly sexual themes are usually labelled with the symbol, meaning PG 15. Generally, a site will have this label if it is suitable for those aged 15 and above.

  • Voting, Ratings & Statistics
    • How does a visitor decide what rating to give a site?
      • Voting is conducted by our visitors according to the following scale: -

        10 = Excellent
         9 = Good
         8 = Fair
         7 = Below standard
         6 = Bad
         5 = Very Bad

    • What are the voting rules and procedures?
      • Each visitor should vote for each site once only.

        All newly-listed sites are given an initial default rating of 8.0000 (on a scale from 5 to 10).

        After a vote is cast, the updated rating score is calculated as being the average of the past 45 votes. This figure of 45 is used because that is the average number of votes each site is currently receiving.
