After wading through countless sites filled with kamikaze pop up adverts and stale outdated content borrowed from other equally unimpressive so called humor sites, I'm certainly glad I dropped in on Jzero's Sketchbook! Finally, a truly original site where everything featured on it isn't stolen from another site! Imagine that! But aside from how this site differs from others, what I like about Jzero's Sketchbook is how it truly is a peek into the sketchbook and mind of a genuinely unique cartoonist. As an added bonus he throws in tips and a useful tutorial to help inspire upcoming beginners. My only gripe is that it doesn't go on longer - I'd like to see Jzero introduce a daily blog where the sketches and stories just keep coming!

Cartoonist's are bound to enjoy Jzero's Sketchbook much more than visitors scouring the net for a quick cartoon gag. I would consider Jzero a cartoonist's cartoonist. There's an intimacy evident in his work that you don't really see too often with cartooning sites. Instead of just displaying funny drawings he invites you in to wonder why they're funny, tells you where his influences come from, and often tells you how he went about drawing them, technically. I think it's pretty funny how he explains that his "tendency to look at things in a very visual way" is "more a curse than a blessing" - and the way in which he can't help but see the world, where "people are not merely people, but breathing caricatures."
Perhaps only slightly out of place are his inclusions of his more commercial works - like his cartooning work for streetplay.com, or his web design for satchmo.net. I enjoyed his more intimate sketchbook drawings a lot more, and wanted to see a lot more of them.
But there are enough outside point of reference influences to keep everybody happy. A huge admiration of vintage horror movies - like those of yesteryear monsters from Universal Studios, acknowledgements of classic comic artists like Mad Magazine's Don Martin, and an unblinking view of oddities of the internet like the infamous public suicide of Pennsylvania politician Bud Dwyer.
Something for everyone.

Jzero's Sketchbook - very funny and a bit naughty!, 21 May 2004

A very well put together website filled with fantastic drawings and witty observations. I don't know where Jzero gets his ideas and inspirations from. Probably some very dark and twisted corner in that mind of his. Some of the drawings are naughty, but nothing too racy. He seems to know the difference between funny and over the line. All in all a very nice way to spend an evening. In my opinion some of the better stuff is at the end - the last couple of pages.
