Vicar: And it came to pass that the Lord sent unto us a
device, known as a G coder, whereby we might key in a number and automatically set our
video machines to record our favourite TV programs. Yes... the G coder.
Does anyone here know why it is so called? Why it has been born with the initial G as
its name - and what that G stands for?
You know, I was passing a household the other evening and it was hot, so the windows of
the house were open. I could not help overhearing the father of the household call upon
the Lord.
"God Almighty" he called - "God Almighty".
I looked in through that window and saw him standing with the G coder in his hand as he
watched back the programme he had unwittingly recorded.
So now we know.
Hymn number 493 - "Oh Lord Preserve us from Marketing Men and their Gadgets".
