Jack Palance:

Throughout history, there have been mystics who believe that by simply looking through a glass, darkly, they could actually see into the future.

The ancient pharaohs firmly believed they could attain immortality by wrapping themselves in bandages and being buried deep inside the Egyptian pyramids.

But ... what people believe in today's world is often even weirder.

There exists, not too far from here, a country of more than a billion people that is ruled by a government that was never elected, a government that ruthlessly suppresses the wishes of those who seek democracy, that locks people up for years without any sort of trial, and that shoots people in the back of the head after show trials in sports stadiums before thousands of spectators.

And yet ... for a while back in 1993 ... that same government seriously thought the rest of the world would let them stage the Olympic Games in the year 2000.

Believe it ... or not.

Man in audience:

Strange. I never knew that about Manchester.
